The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Spring quarter and art stuff EDIT for tegaki

Ok so this is my last quarter as a college freshman!  Yay!  Unfortunately I'm kind of scared for my physics lab this quarter because it sounds really intense.  Also I have to write a term paper for another class, but the seminar-giver/instructor (what do i call that person? i don't think she's an actual professor) sounds really helpful so hopefully that won't be a bad deal.  Then math and physics, same old same old.

But um ugh I've totally run out of the creative energy I had a few weeks ago ;;__;;  I had such great ideas for paintings and was all inspired but then I went home and got lazy and drew a chibi.  But I think I know why I've been really good about doing the backgrounds on those pieces but having shit-all to show for the actual focus....it's because they were mostly closeups of FACES....so, this plus what I was trying to draw today, plus looking back and all the little drawings i've been doing regularly shows...

MY FACES SUCK BUTT

Blaarrrg.  I drew an amazing Marius body today but his face makes him look like he's constipated or retarded or both.  And I've redrawn it a million times @_@  My woman/girl faces are unwomanly/girlish and my man faces are unmanly.  It seems all I can draw are boyish faces. UUGHHH

The only times my faces look good is when I draw a tiny, like four-inch-tall, person and the face is like five strokes of my pencil. (my friends all tell me how small i draw somtimes @_@)

SO.  I really need to practice that.  This means I might do a free bust-sketch event where I can practice characterization in faces.  Free means dubious quality though ;D  Seriously I need to get on this if I want to do commissions this summer.  Umm but no event until I see how demanding school will be.

Uuuummmmmm so the meisatsu naming thing kind of faded away.  I really liked the name Alesh but seth says it's too manly >:[[[[[

my brother draws really small too - like his head will be no larger than the diamerter of a penny hehe

and the faces you draw dont suck! and to be quite honest i think i have the same unmanly + unwomanly thing going on with things i draw too XD

how about trying to do a hyper feminine or hyper masculine piece? hehe

gl with spring quarter! are you taking a GE cluster btw?

Yes, I'm taking the history of modern though cluster, and my seminar is on travel narratives.
